South Fork Water Board

South Fork Water Board has a number of presentations, resources, and tools available to help our community learn more about water conservation. School programs include Assembly Programs, Classroom Activities and Presentations, Videos, and Other Resources and Financial Assistance. There are also a number of presentations available to community groups as well as conservation kits that are free on request.
Prior to 1915 both Oregon City and West Linn got their drinking water from the Willamette River. As a consequence of a serious outbreak of typhoid in 1913, the Oregon City Commission formed the “Pure Mountain Water League” and directed it to find a new source of drinking water. The League identified the South Fork of the Clackamas River. In March of that year the Oregon City Commission accepted West Linn’s request for one-third share in the project. As a result representatives from both Cities were selected and the South Fork Water Board was created.
With the abundant rainfall we have in the Pacific Northwest, it is sometimes difficult to understand why we need to conserve water. As our communities have grown, our water needs have also grown. To make sure that we have water when we need it; to reduce the cost of developing new supplies; to leave more water in the rivers for fish and recreation; and to make sure you get your money’s worth; we all need to use water wisely.
South Fork Water Board (SFWB) is a wholesale water provider to the cities of Oregon City and West Linn. SFWB is jointly owned by the two cities and is governed by a six-member Board comprised of the Mayors and two elected officials from each city.
